Oxford Instruments to recruit record number of apprentices in early careers recruitment drive

Oxford Instruments is stepping up its commitment to developing talent, as it looks to take on its biggest ever cohort of apprentices for 2023 and beyond.

Timed to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week (6-12 February 2023), the company’s 2023 apprenticeship recruitment programme will see it offer 25 apprenticeships of up to four years’ duration in a wide variety of areas from manufacturing and production to software and marketing. Roles will be available at all four of its primary manufacturing sites in the UK, including its head office at Tubney Woods, outside Oxford; Oxford Instruments Andor Technology, in Belfast; Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, in Bristol; and Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis, in High Wycombe. This year’s apprentices will join close to 40 colleagues already undertaking an apprenticeship with the company.

Founded in 1959 as the first commercial spin-out from Oxford University, the FTSE 250-listed company, which employs more than 1,200 people in the UK and 2,000 globally, designs, supplies and supports high-technology products and systems for the world’s leading companies and universities.

Just a few examples of how Oxford Instruments products are used include:

  • accelerating medical progress by helping life scientists to understand fundamental disease mechanisms;
  • supporting the development of higher performing, more environmentally friendly batteries and sources of renewable energy
  • helping material scientists to create the building blocks of modern society by exploring the properties of advanced materials;
  • speeding up the development of quantum computing through the use of cryogenics and magnet technology;
  • and helping create a more connected world through technology which is enabling the next generation of communication devices.
