TATA Steel installed Symmetry EBSD detector…..the first one in India.
TATA Steel – Jamshedpur recently upgraded their EBSD facility at their Advanced Material Characterisation Laboratory by replacing existing Oxford Instruments Nordlys detector and AZtecHKL EBSD with the latest CMOS sensor based ‘Symmetry’ EBSD detector system. Symmetry® is the first CMOS sensor based EBSD detector released by Oxford Instruments – UK.
Dr. Subrato Mukharjee – Head Material Characterisation Group at TATA Steel added stating that they successfully used Nordlys HKL EBSD system supplied by Oxford Instruments for more than 11 years. During the upgrade, they learnt about the latest CMOS sensor based Symmetry EBSD detector launched by Oxford Instruments. After a detailed technical evaluation, TATA Steel decided to invest in this new detector and are now very happy using the Symmetry EBSD detector which has increased the throughput of their analyses. They were able to bring down the acquisition time from 8-10 hours previously to 2-3 hours without compromising any data quality. The new system also allowed them to see improvements in the latest indexing algorithms used in the AZtec® system software supplied by Oxford Instruments.
Mangesh Kulkarni - INDIA Country Director, Oxford Instruments INDIA stated that they are very happy to see TATA Steel as the first users of this latest CMOS-based Symmetry EBSD system. He added that Oxford Instruments are the first in the market to release the CMOS-based EBSD detector, which has revolutionized the EBSD data acquisition system. He added that the unique property of CMOS which enables parallel data readout, also allows detectors to acquire the EBSD data with higher speed and high resolution and no compromise of the data. Oxford Instruments is really happy to see that Symmetry CMOS-based EBSD systems are shaping the way in which EBSD is used in the market, driving innovative solutions and bringing change to the industry.
