Andor’s Benchtop Confocal Microscope wins Microscopy Today Innovation Award

BC43, Andor Technology’s revolutionary benchtop confocal microscope, has been recognised as one of the ten best microscopy innovations worldwide in the 2022 Microscopy Today Innovation Awards.

Each year, Microscopy Today, an industry-leading publication run by the Microscopy Society of America, presents ten awards to organizations or individuals who have launched or published innovations in microscopy or microanalysis.

Winning products and methods are selected based on their usefulness to the microscopy community. The entries most likely to win are those that provide better, faster, easier, or entirely new methods of analysis using a microscope or microanalytical instrument.

BC43, which was launched in November 2021, is an affordable and high-speed confocal microscope. It is compact and purposefully easy to use, allowing researchers to save time while capturing amazing 2D and 3D images. Every component has been designed with performance and accessibility in mind.

Commenting on the award, Dr. Geraint Wilde, Andor’s Product Manager for BC43, commented:

“We are truly delighted to win this award, which underlines how well-received BC43 has been in the microscopy community.

“The aim of BC43 was to make confocal microscopy more accessible and we are realising this goal by introducing high-quality 3D imaging into regular laboratories, including in many facilities that felt confocal technology was out of their reach financially.

“This project was driven by understanding that scientists are busy people, striving to collect meaningful data in the shortest time possible. They now have access to confocal technology on the same bench as the samples they prepare and can see the results within just a couple of minutes.

“We want to support our customers and their drive for breakthroughs across many research fields, and we believe the BC43 will continue make a valuable contribution to their efforts.

“The success of BC43 was only possible due to the fantastic collaboration within Oxford Instruments, with so many people across multiple departments playing a vital role in its development journey. This award is great recognition for the ingenuity, passion and determination displayed by the project team before, during and after the launch.”
