Applications in Steel
EBSD is widely used as a very important characterisation tool in steels. The typical investigation of steels by EBSD include phase identification, grain boundary, interphase boundary, grain size and texture analysis. The possibility of rapid and reliable indentification of ferrite and austenite phases by EBSD is bringing new understanding of steel microstructures, where the old and laborious optical microscopy method was a challenging task even for the best trained eye. The discrimination between ferrite, martensite and bainite phases is opening new exploration routes for developing ultra-high strength types of steels.
